Match report
We start the title defence in control
The Emirates worked out very quickly that this would be a quiet night. Calafiori found Havertz, who hit it first time, and Saka made it two eight minutes later. Coventry did not lack ideas, but the Sky Blues spent the first half chasing the ball without ever taking it, and Odegaard settled it right after the restart. Arteta emptied his bench in the last quarter of an hour, which for an opening night is a decent sign. Tzolis, for his part, confirmed on his league debut what he had already shown in Cardiff.

Analysis & Arsenal focus
Coventry a subi, littéralement

We defend the title against a side that came back from a long way
We reopen the Emirates on a Friday night, wearing the champions' badge, against a club a whole generation has never seen come here: Coventry last played a top-flight league game in 2001, and Lampard has just brought them back by running away with the Championship. Cardiff did us good, but the real season starts tonight, and the worry sits at the back, with Saliba out long term and Timber still training away from the group. Further forward, Tzolis arrives on a high after his two assists against City. Several Sky Blues will discover the Premier League at the same time as we do.
