Leverkusen shut the door on Quansah: 'not for sale', and no clause left to bypass them

Opened on 14 August on the back of talks reported by Sky Sports, the file closes the same day. Florian Plettenberg (Sky Germany) reports a clear internal decision at Bayer Leverkusen: Quansah is not for sale, and there is no release clause or buy-back option left. ESPN adds that no direct club-to-club talks ever took place — Arsenal had only sounded things out through intermediaries. The file cools without ever getting past the exploratory stage.

Latest development

**UPDATE 15/08 — the trail closes as fast as it opened.** On the evening of 14 August, Florian Plettenberg (Sky Germany) reported an internal decision the club does not intend to revisit: "Jarell Quansah is currently not for sale at Bayer 04 Leverkusen. There is also no release clause or buy-back option anymore." That last point corrects what we wrote the day before: the Liverpool buy-back clause valued at around €70m no longer exists, so Arsenal had no contractual lever to force the issue. ESPN cut the file down to its real size on the same day: no direct talks between Arsenal and Leverkusen ever took place, the Gunners had merely sounded things out through intermediaries, and Quansah was only a fallback should the valuation gap with Aston Villa over Ezri Konsa prove unbridgeable. Asked about both Konsa and Quansah at his 14 August press conference, Mikel Arteta declined to name names while confirming the intent: "I am not going to talk about an individual but what I can obviously tell you is the ambition of the club", adding that the club had detected areas it can strengthen. What is established: Leverkusen's refusal, stated by a top-tier source, and the absence of any clause. What is not: nothing — there was nothing more to it. Status REFROIDI, and the line stays open in case the German club changes its mind before 31 August.
