A single source opened this file: TeamTalk, on 6 August, reporting that Andrea Berta had discussed the Athletic Bilbao winger and that his ≈£77m release clause was within reach. Sixteen days later, nothing has confirmed it, in the middle of the window. The player himself said publicly in June that he wants to see out his contract at Bilbao — nine years — and Arsenal had already walked away in May, doubting he wanted to leave. FootballTransfers wrote on 16 August that he will not be leaving Spain this summer. The line moves to COOLED.

FootballTransfers, listing on 16 August the left wingers Arsenal have missed this summer, files Nico Williams among the closed doors: he will not be leaving Spain this season. That squares with two older, never-denied points — the player said in June he would stay at Athletic “for the rest of my life” if it were up to him, and Arsenal walked away as early as May, doubting he wanted to move.
