Debast stays at Sporting: a lead that fades for never having existed

The Sporting Portugal centre-back has reportedly been offered to Arsenal by intermediaries for ≈€40m, in the context of William Saliba’s injury. Reported by a single second-tier source (CaughtOffside, relayed by Football Whispers), with no club-to-club contact or confirmed interest from the Gunners: logged for the record at the lowest status.

Latest development

**UPDATE 17/08 — file gone cold.** Twenty-four days after the single report that created it, nothing has backed up an Arsenal move for Zeno Debast: no club-to-club contact, no bid, not one pick-up by a front-rank source. Belgian football reporter Sacha Tavolieri had in fact written, back during the late-July rumour wave, that the defender was expected to stay at Sporting for 2026/27. Mid-window, a month of silence on a lead opened by intermediaries is not waiting — it is a dead file. We move it to COOLED. The row stays on the table and will reopen if a credible source revives it. CaughtOffside (relayed by Football Whispers, July 24) write that Debast has been "offered to the Gunners via intermediaries" and that a deal could be done for ≈€40m. No top-tier source (Ornstein, Romano, BBC, Sky) has picked the story up, and nothing indicates active Arsenal interest: a player being offered is not a player being targeted. Weak-rumour status until it is corroborated.
